If you ask a southerner, they will tell you that they're called Pickle Fries or Bacon Pickle Fries.

The origin is a mystery, but we know that the first written recipes of wrapped, fried, or stuffed pickles began around the early 1960s.

Their popularity has only picked up momentum over the decades. You'll find some kind of pickle appetizer on the menus of many restaurants.

    Can I use homemade pickles?

    Absolutely!

Grab your favorite pickle spear and start wrapping! It's also a good time to elevate that jar of pickles that has been sitting in your refrigerator.

Or if you've got a fancy jar of pickles like jalapeño or garlic dill, those will also be wonderful in this simple, yet amazingly delicious recipe.

Are pickle recipes the new food fad?

Pickles and fun recipes using pickles seemed to have burst out onto the food scene with no loss of momentum! You'll see dill pickles or the brine used in so many creative ways like these tasty recipes:

    • Dill Pickle Chicken Wings from Life's Ambrosia
    • Dill Pickle Pasta Salad from Family Fresh Meals
    • Cajun Fried Pickles from The Chunky Chef
    • Dill Pickle Bread from Belly Full

    Are Bacon Wrapped Pickles keto-friendly?

I'm not a dietician or any type of medical or health professional, so I can't specifically say yes or no. Plus, I am not on the diet myself.

But with only three grams of carbs, Cast Iron Bacon Wrapped Pickles seem ideal for low carb diets. They're super satisfying and so easy so to make that you can keep them on hand.

What dip is best for bacon pickles?

Platter and plate of the appetizer with homemade ranch dip.

Our favorite dip for this is ranch dip. Some folks may find it blasphemous to use other dips!

But let's go crazy! Blue cheese dip, barbecue sauce, queso dip, and French onion dip are all tasty possibilities and I'd try every one.

We used this Homemade Ranch Dip from The Complete Savorist. It was perfect with these pickles.

How to make Cast Iron Bacon Wrapped Pickles?

I feel like this is one of those non-recipe recipes. I mean there's only two ingredients.

But the laws of the internet say we must spell our recipes out in painstaking detail, so here we go.

    Preheat the oven to 425°F.

Wrapping strips of bacon around pickles and securing in place with toothpicks.

You'll want to shake off as much excess brine from the pickles as possible to help encourage the bacon to get cripsy.

Take a strip of bacon and wrap it around the pickle spear. If the pickle is rather stubby, you might want to cut the bacon strip in half.

One the bacon is around the pickle, secure with toothpicks on both ends. This allows the bacon to cook forming to the pickle.

A row of bacon pickles prepped.

    And continue.

One you've wrapped them all, toss these bad boys in the preheated oven. Bake for 25 minutes then flip on the broiler to crisp up the bacon.

Once done, allow them to cook for a hot minute before manhandling them. They're gonna be HOT right out of oven...that bacon will hurt.

After they've cooled for a quick minute, plate them up, and begin dipping and enjoying.

    Notes

32 oz. jars of pickles are hard to find, so we used 2-24 oz. jars and wrapped until we ran out of bacon. It was about a jar and a half.
A skillet works for these pickles, but a 12" is too small, but a 15" will work.
