Good food doesn’t need to be complicated in my book and these cheesy pull apart rolls are a perfect example. The ingredient list is short and sweet and easy pantry staples make the prep almost virtually nonexistent.

Even better, they cook up into rolls that taste like nothing you’ve had before. Enjoy them with your favorite comfort foods or pasta dish for dinner, or on their own as a fun appetizer!

Why You Will Love This Pull Apart Rolls Recipe

    • Double Duty. What makes these rolls sooo special is that they make a great side dish for dinner but are also some of my favorite party bread appetizers for football watching, movie night, or any gathering with friends.
    • So Quick and Easy. This recipe uses pantry staples and prepared foods to prepare making it a dish you can assemble with minimal effort.
    • Ooey Gooey Deliciousness.  These pull apart dinner rolls are amazing! They’re cheesy, garlicky, and cooked up in creamy alfredo sauce.

    Ingredients

Labeled ingredient image: frozen rolls, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, Alfredo sauce, rosemary, butter, and granulated garlic.
    • Butter and granulated garlic: Melted butter is mixed with garlic to coat each roll before adding it to the skillet. It keeps them from sticking to the pan but also adds rich flavors.
    • Frozen rolls: Any brand works but I find that the frozen rolls are easy to work with and make this recipe so simple to prepare.
    • Alfredo sauce: You can use your favorite jarred sauce or make alfredo sauce from scratch. The sauce combines with the cheese to really intensify the cheesiness and yumminess of these rolls.
    • Cheese: Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese are spread over the top to make this cheesy bread. Parmesan cheese brings a nutty and sharp flavor while the mozzarella really gives them a delicious cheesy pull.
    • Rosemary: Fresh rosemary adds another layer of flavor that’s sprinkled over the top just before baking..

Be sure to scroll down to the full recipe card for the complete list of ingredients along with their quantities.

    Variations

    • Pizza Style: Swap the Alfredo sauce for pizza or marinara sauce. You can even tuck in some pieces of pepperoni into the crevices of the rolls or chop it up and sprinkle it over the top. Swap the fresh rosemary for fresh basil.
    • Pesto: Mix a few tablespoons of pesto into the Alfredo sauce before pouring it over the top. Leave off the rosemary as the pesto will add plenty of flavor.
    • Spicy: Add a pinch or two of crushed red pepper flakes if you want to add a bit of heat.

How to Make Cheesy Pull Apart Bread

Here’s everything you need to know to make this pull apart rolls recipe. Gather all your ingredients, preheat your oven to 350° F, grab your cast iron skillet, and let’s get started. You’ll have freshly cooked dinner rolls or party appetizer in no time.

Step 1: Prep the butter mixture. Melt the butter in a microwave safe bowl and then stir in the granulated garlic.

Step 2: Coat the rolls. Roll each dough ball in the butter mixture to coat the outside. Add the frozen bread rolls to your 12″ Cast iron skillet.

Step 3: Add the Alfredo sauce. Spread the Alfredo sauce over the top of the rolls. It will fill the empty spaces around the rolls.

Step 5 - Top them. Finish it off with the fresh rosemary.

Step 5: Bake. Place the skillet in the oven and bake for 40 minutes or until lightly browned on top.

    Serving Suggestions

This homemade cheesy bread makes a tasty appetizer to serve up for events! Pair it with other party favorites like this hot chorizo cheese dip, bacon wrapped smokies, and these skillet chicken wings.

For meals, serve these cheesy pull aparts up as a side dish for any type of dish. My family loves them with pasta dishes! From this baked spaghetti casserole to spaghetti and meatballs and Dutch oven lasagna.

    Cheesy Pull Apart Bread Tips

    • Leftovers: Store any leftover cheesy pull aparts (though I bet you don’t have any) at room temperature for up to two days or in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. Reheat them in the oven or air fryer for 5 minutes at 350° F or until heated through.
    • Fully Coat: Make sure you dip and roll the rolls around in the butter to thoroughly coat them before placing them in the skillet.
    • Grate Cheese From Block: Pre-shredded cheese definitely makes life easier but contains additives to keep it from sticking together that does affect melting. Grating cheese from the block will give you a better consistency and smoother melt.

    Notes

    Recipe Tips:
    • Add flavors: You can add a pinch of red pepper flakes if you want to add a bit of heat or stir in some pesto with the Alfredo sauce to add more garlicky basil flavors.
    • Grate cheese: If you have time, grate cheese from the block for the best flavor and smoothest melt.
    • Alfredo sauce: Storebought sauce is a time saver but there’s nothing quite as good as making this cheesy pull apart bread with homemade Alfredo sauce.

Do you let the rolls raise any before adding all the toppings?

Great question. It depends on the weather (if its warm) and if I am cooking outside then I don't let them raise much. If its a colder day and/or I'm cooking in my kitchen then I let them raise.
