    • Comfort & Color: Juicy pears, tangy raspberries, and a crumbly cake topping make for a dessert that’s as indulgent as it is visually stunning.
    • Versatile Dish: Enjoy it warm with a scoop of ice cream, as a show stopper at a gathering, or even cold as leftovers - it’s a winner every time.
    • Beginner-Friendly: Effortless steps and common ingredients make this a confidence-boosting dessert for novice bakers.
    • Campfire Friendly: This Dutch oven cake is even better baked as a campfire dessert over an open flame, making it ideal for camping or backyard bonfires.

    Ingredients

Ingredients to make this pear raspberry cake on a table.
    • Fruit: Use canned pears (with syrup) and fresh raspberries for the best texture and flavor. Frozen raspberries work too. Just layer them straight from the freezer to let their juices release during baking.
    • Cake Mix: The cake mix acts as the base for this delightful dessert. Any yellow or white cake mix will work well to give the cake the right fluffy texture.
    • Butter: Cubed butter creates the golden, crispy topping that’s essential for a dump cake. Be sure to evenly distribute the butter over the top to ensure a perfectly golden crust.

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

    Variations

    • Fruit How You Like It:  Love raspberries and pears but want to switch it up? This recipe can easily feature just one fruit—try a raspberry dump cake or a pear dump cake version. You can also get creative with other combinations like blueberry, pineapple cherry dump cake, or even chocolate cherry cake.
    • Gluten Free Option: No need to skip dessert if you’re gluten-free! Simply swap the cake mix for a gluten-free version, and you’ll still get that same deliciously fluffy cake.
    • Crunchier Topping: Want to add more texture to your topping? Mix in chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts for a sweet crunch, or sprinkle oats on top for a rustic, cobbler-style consistency.
    • Chocolate Lover’s Dream: Turn this dessert into a chocoholic’s dream by adding white, milk, or dark chocolate chips into the mix. The melty chocolate pairs beautifully with the juicy fruit flavors of the pear raspberry dump cake.

How to Make Pear Raspberry Dump Cake

Ready to uncomplicate your week with this easy Dutch oven dessert? Let’s get started! But first, preheat your oven to 350°F. While the oven preheats, grab your 12” skillet, and those 5 household ingredients:

Canned pears, syrup, and the raspberries into your Dutch oven.

Step 1: Dump the Fruit. Add the canned pears, including the syrup, and the raspberries to your Dutch oven, spreading them in an even layer across the bottom.

Yellow cake mix spread evenly over the pears and raspberries.

Step 2: Spread the Mix. Sprinkle the yellow cake mix evenly over the pears and raspberries.

Butter and soda added on top of the mixture.

Step 3: Add the Butter. Cube the butter and distribute it evenly over the cake mix.

Dump cake cooked in the dutch oven.

Step 4: Bake and Enjoy. Bake the Dutch oven dessert with cake mix at 350°F with the lid on for 20-30 minutes, or until golden, bubbly, and with a crispy topping. Serve it up and enjoy!

    Expert Tips

    • Avoid Stirring: You don’t need to stir the cake mix with the fruit layer. Let the dry mix bake on top with the butter to create that signature crispy, crumbly texture of a classic dump cake!
    • Don’t Overbake: Keep an eye on your pear and raspberry crumble as it bakes. You want it to come out golden, bubbly, and crisp—not dry!
    • Make Ahead: This dessert can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance. Bake it the day before, let it cool, and then store it in the refrigerator. Warm it up in the oven the next day for the freshly baked flavor.
    • Storing and Reheating: If you are lucky to have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. To freeze, transfer the cooled cake to a freezer-safe container and store for up to 3 months. Let them thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating in the oven (in an oven-safe dish) or the microwave.

    Serving Suggestions

Now that your pear raspberry cake is ready, here are a few fun ways to enjoy it:

    • Top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a classic pairing.
    • Garnish the pear cake with fresh raspberries, a drizzle of caramel or butterscotch sauce, and a sprig of mint for a dessert that looks as good as it tastes.
    • Pair a succulent pan-fried salmon with a zesty balsamic glaze or smoked crab legs meal with a bowl of this dessert.
    • Serve it alongside hearty dishes like sausage stuffed butternut squash or bacon wrapped smokies to create a comforting meal from start to finish.
