Camp Oven Peach Dump Cake
Why is it called a “dump” cake?
It’s called a dump cake because all ingredients are dumped into a Cast iron Dutch oven, cake pan or slow cooker. This makes a fantastic camp dessert because of the minimal meal prep that may be required for other recipes.
Is a “dump” cake the same as a cobbler?
Dump cakes are different in that they usually are made with a cake mix and a can of soda. Cobblers usually are covered with a crusty topping and a fruit filling.
What is in a Camp Oven Peach Dump Cake?
- Canned Peaches in juice
- 1 Box yellow cake mix
- 1/4 lb stick of salted butter
- 12 oz can lemon lime soda
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
It’s as simple as that! 5 simple ingredients and you are on your way to a delicious camp oven treat that will bring everyone to the camp fire.
Should I drain the peach juice?
No draining required, the juice will allow the box cake mix cook all the way through. You can use peaches that are in juice or heavy syrup depending on your preference.

I have made this all the time without the soda pop. It bashes there too crusty. Why would I need to add it in?
Great question Candy! You can choose to add the soda or leave it out. It definitely changes the flavor.
made this today with fresh peaches and also added mulberries… after some insight from Ned (Dutch Oven Daddy), i added about an ounce extra Sprite, to make up for missing the yummy syrup from the can…turned out AMAZING!!!!
I’m so glad it turned out well for you! Peaches and Mulberries sounds like an amazing combination! Very well done!
Recipe says 12 coals on bottom but doesn’t say how many coals on top….
Hi Sue, great question. In step 10 it mentions to, “Place heated coals over the entire lid.” Usually what I do is make a ring of coals around the outside of the lid and then a ring inside of that. Let me know if that helps clarify.
Can I do it with apples instead of peaches
Great question Charles! Absolutely, you can use any fruit that’d you like.
Can I double the recipe?
Absolutely, keep in mind that cooking times will most likely change. Keep an eye on it so that it doesn’t burn.
Awesome thanks!
You’re welcome! Happy cooking!
I love making this. Use frozen fruit instead of canned. Any frozen fruit. I think it comes out better. Add a little Mexican vanilla to it and then cinnamon on top to taste.
Do you add extra liquid? Mexican vanilla is a wonderful addition.
I don’t. Just make sure the sprite covers the cake batter completely so you don’t get dry spots with the batter
This is a fan favorite when camping.
Hello, sounds very nice
Just interested in the soft drink.
Is it sprite that you recommend to use?
Thank you,
Donna
Any lemon-lime soda will work.
This is one of the better, easiest, awesome, peach dumps that I have tried. Thank You !
We made this all the time when my kids were little. I never knew the name of it. We had taken a group of young women into the mountains and one of our leaders made it for us so we just started calling it Bishop’s cake after him. The only thing we did differently was adding red hots to the top of the cake. Last time I went to make the cake we had a very hard time finding red hots. We still get requests for it when we have family reunions.
The perfect, easy treat for camping. My family loved it!
THis is such a game changer to make an awesome dessert while camping!
What a super simple and marvelous dessert. I can’t wait to dig into this deliciousness!
We absolutely loved this! Peach flavors are always so reminiscent of summer and this was no exception. Perfect seasonal treat.
Perfect! I love this recipe!
I love your dump cake recipes – they are so easy and super delicious – and how innovative that you utilise soda in these cakes! They always turn out amazing!
Thank you for another great recipe! I’m always looking for dishes I can make while we’re out camping, so I’ll save this for later!
So I was hesitant to try this Peach Dump Cake as adding the lemon lime soda was foreign to me. But I am so glad I made the recipe exactly as written because it takes a standard dump cake to a whole new level. The dish was so yummy and simple to make – plus it looked great using my Dutch oven as the serving dish.
We are heading to a camp next week and I will get to try this. Did a small portion trail on the stove top and it does taste amazing.
I can’t believe how easy this cake is to make! It’s so delicious, I can’t get enough
My husband is a diabetic so we love this recipe because we use peaches with their own juice and diet soda and it makes a lower calorie treat he can have after a lighter meal Taste great for those watching calories
