This policy covers the Dutch Oven Daddy app for iPhone and iPad. The dutchovendaddy.com website has its own policy at https://dutchovendaddy.com/privacy-policy/.
The Short Version
- You can use the whole app without an account.
- Your saved recipes, cooking journal, shopping list, and profile stay on your device. Saved recipes go to your own private iCloud only if you turn on iCloud Sync.
- We receive personal information from you only when you post a comment or rating, or sign in.
- The app shows no third-party ads, and we do not sell your data or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
- The app sends a small amount of anonymous usage data, which you can turn off in Settings.
Data That Stays on Your Device
The following is stored only on your iPhone or iPad. We cannot see it.
- Saved recipes and articles, including copies kept for offline reading.
- Cooking journal entries and the photos you add to them.
- Shopping list items.
- Profile: the display name, email address, and photo you enter.
- Settings and preferences, such as units and notification choices.
- Photos you take in the app. The app asks for camera access only when you choose to photograph a finished cook. The photo stays on your device unless you share it yourself.
Deleting the app removes all of this data from the device.
Optional iCloud Sync
When you enable iCloud Sync in Settings, the app stores your saved recipes in your own iCloud private database under the container iCloud.com.dutchovendaddy.DODApp. The synced data (recipe titles, ingredients, instructions, image links, and the saved flag) is stored in your personal iCloud space and is accessible only to you, on Apple devices signed in to the same Apple Account. We do not see, collect, or have any access to your iCloud data.
Your cooking journal, shopping list, and profile are not part of iCloud Sync.
To stop syncing, turn off iCloud Sync in Settings or sign out of iCloud. Either action removes your saved recipes from your iCloud space; the saves on your device are kept. The app works fully without iCloud.
Comments and Ratings
When you post a comment or a star rating on a recipe, the app sends the following to dutchovendaddy.com:
- your display name,
- your email address,
- the text of your comment and your star rating.
Your name, comment, and rating are published on the recipe, in the app and on the website, where anyone can see them. Your email address is not published. We use it only to moderate comments and to reply to you.
Like any website, dutchovendaddy.com and its spam-filtering tools may also log technical details of the request, such as your IP address.
If you report a comment, the app opens an email to us with the details of that comment. If you block a commenter, the block is stored only on your device.
To have a comment or rating you posted removed, email us at the address below.
Signing In (Optional)
Signing in is optional. If you choose to sign in, your sign-in details are stored on your device.
Sign in with Apple. We receive your Apple user identifier and, if you choose to share them, your name and email address. The email may be an Apple private relay address if you select "Hide My Email." To complete sign-in, and to cancel the authorization when you delete your profile, the app sends a one-time sign-in code to a small service we run on Cloudflare, which passes it to Apple. That service stores nothing.
Sign in with Google. We receive your Google account identifier, name, and email address from Google. Google's handling of your sign-in is covered by Google's privacy policy.
We use these details only to show who you are signed in as and to attach your name to comments or ratings you post. We never share them with advertisers or analytics services.
Anonymous Usage Data
To learn which recipes are read in the app, the app sends a recipe-opened event to Google Analytics. The event contains:
- the ID and page address of the recipe or article you opened,
- an anonymous identifier: a one-way scrambled (hashed) form of the identifier Apple gives our app on your device. It is not your Apple Account, your email address, or your device's advertising identifier.
It never includes your name, your email address, anything you type, or your search terms. As with any internet request, Google also receives your IP address.
This data is not linked to your profile, and we do not use it for advertising.
You can turn this off at any time in Settings → Data & Privacy → Share Anonymous Usage Data. When it is off, the app sends no usage data.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, the app can alert you to cooking timers and to new recipes and articles. Timer alerts are created on your device. To spot new posts, the app periodically checks dutchovendaddy.com in the background.
Content From the Website and Other Services
Recipes, articles, images, and comments are loaded from dutchovendaddy.com. Some content comes from other services, including recipe videos (hosted by our video provider or YouTube) and commenters' profile pictures (Gravatar). When the app loads content from a service, that service receives your IP address, as it would from any web browser.
Searches you type are sent to dutchovendaddy.com to find matching recipes.
Links that leave the app, such as product, shop, or social links, open in your browser. Some product links are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you buy. The sites you visit have their own privacy policies.
What We Do Not Do
- We do not show third-party ads in the app.
- We do not sell or rent your personal information.
- We do not track you across apps and websites owned by other companies.
- We do not collect your location, contacts, or health data.
Your Choices
- See where your data lives: Settings → Data & Privacy → Privacy Dashboard.
- Get a copy of your data: Settings → Data & Privacy → Export My Data creates a file with your saved recipes, journal, shopping list, and profile.
- Turn off usage data: Settings → Data & Privacy → Share Anonymous Usage Data.
- Sign out: open your profile and choose Sign Out.
- Delete your profile: open your profile and choose Delete Profile. This erases your profile and sign-in details from the device and, if you signed in with Apple or Google, cancels the app's authorization with that account. Comments and ratings you already posted remain on the website until you ask us to remove them.
- Remove everything on the device: delete the app.
- Ask us to access, correct, or delete information we hold (the name, email, comments, and ratings you posted): email us at the address below. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA, and we will honor them.
How Long We Keep Information
- Comments and ratings, with the name and email you posted them under, are kept until you ask us to remove them.
- Anonymous usage data is kept by our analytics provider under its standard retention settings.
- Everything else stays on your device, or in your own iCloud, until you delete it.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has posted personal information, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to This Policy
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
