Camp Oven
Heat coals in a charcoal chimney.
Once hot, place 12 coals on bottom of the camp table, fire pit, etc. Nestle camp oven on top of the coals.
Evenly pour the peaches in the camp oven.
Spread cake mix evenly over the peaches, breaking up any clumps.
Pour the lemon lime soda over the mixture.
Place the cubed butter evenly on top of the mixture. Sprinkle cinnamon on top.
Cover with the camp oven lid. Place heated coals over the entire lid. Allow to cook for 45 minutes.
Check for doneness by using a lid lifter, if not done, cook up to an additional 15 minutes. When done, remove from coals and serve immediately.
Dutch Oven
Pre-heat oven to 350
°
F.
Evenly pour the peaches in the Dutch oven.
Spread cake mix evenly over the peaches, breaking up any clumps.
Pour the lemon lime soda over the mixture.
Place the cubed butter evenly on top of the mixture. Sprinkle cinnamon on top.
Cover with the Dutch oven lid. Allow to cook for 45 minutes.
Check for doneness if not done, cook up to an additional 15 minutes. When done, remove from oven and serve immediately.
Notes
Keep the layers intact. Do not stir the peaches, cake mix, or soda.
Pour the soda slowly and evenly so it soaks through the cake mix for a tender texture.
Spread the butter evenly over the cake mix to prevent dry spots and help the top brown.
Check the edges for bubbling and the top for a golden color to know when it is done.
